Vision of the Drama Curriculum
Our intent is to provide a curriculum that is engaging and inspiring and as well as educating students about theatre and its history, will develop them as individuals and prepare them to become well rounded members of society. Imagination and creativity will be promoted in a safe and encouraging environment where students can develop the skills to communicate with others and work as part of a team. They will be encouraged to be inquisitive, analyse and question the world around us and foster a sense of pride in their creative abilities; challenging themselves and taking risks in the creation and performance of drama, building confidence in doing so.
Drama Curriculum Intent
Why is Drama important? | Our intent is to provide a curriculum that is engaging and inspiring and as well as educating students about theatre and its history, will develop them as individuals and prepare them to become well rounded members of society. Imagination and creativity will be promoted in a safe and encouraging environment where students can develop the skills to communicate with others and work as part of a team. They will be encouraged to be inquisitive, analyse and question the world around us and foster a sense of pride in their creative abilities; challenging themselves and taking risks in the creation and performance of drama, building confidence in doing so. |
What is Drama's value within the curriculum and in everyday life? | In studying drama at Alsop students will develop skills in speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will engage with a range of stimuli employing a range of skills to devise and structure work and resolve situations and scenarios which are presented to them in a drama situation; through their active participation in group work they will learn to express themselves creatively and imaginatively becoming confident and effective communicators. They will develop an appreciation of theatre styles, playwrights and practitioners, using subject specific vocabulary and observe and positively evaluate their own work and that of others. |
How does Drama reinforce the Alsop values of Knowledge Respect and Opportunity? |
Our drama curriculum reflects the Alsop values of knowledge, respect and opportunity. Students are given a practical knowledge of how drama works as an art form and how itis fundamental to cultures in different times and places. They are culturally enriched as they learn about different styles of theatre, practitioners and plays and ways of creating their own drama with the knowledge that this imparts. Students work as a team to problem solve together and in doing so are taught to respect the opinions of others. Empathy and compassion is developed through drama techniques and social issues covered in the curriculum, creating an environment of positivity, kindness and support. In ddition to this students are given the opportunities to explore their own creativity, observe and analyse the work of professionals and their peers and perform their work for others. They can develop their passion for drama through extra-curricular performances and the opportunity to work with theatre practitioners within the curriculum. Our drama curriculum aims not only to enrich students’ knowledge of theatrical styles |
