Year 9 Residential Visit – Water Park Lakeland Adventure Centre, Coniston

Friday 13th February 2026, 37 Year 9 students and four members of staff departed for their residential visit to the Water Park Lakeland Adventure Centre in Coniston. Despite some traffic delays, students travelled in high spirits and were rewarded with impressive views as the coach entered the Lake District.
Upon arrival, the group was welcomed by centre staff and introduced to the expectations for the weekend, including shared responsibilities such as clearing tables and preparing the dining space. These routines formed an important part of the residential experience, encouraging independence, cooperation, and respect for communal living.
On Saturday, students began a full programme of outdoor learning activities led by experienced instructors. The morning focused on high ropes challenges, climbing elements, and team problem-solving exercises. Students demonstrated determination and resilience throughout, supporting one another and showing excellent teamwork as they tackled unfamiliar challenges.
In the afternoon, students took part in a kayaking session on Coniston Water. Although conditions were overcast, students embraced the opportunity to develop their paddling skills and confidence on the water while working collaboratively in their groups. Evening activities included a structured outdoor team game, which further encouraged cooperation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Following overnight snowfall, Sunday’s programme concluded with a guided winter hike. Students navigated snowy paths, uneven terrain, and stream crossings, demonstrating perseverance and adaptability in challenging conditions. Reaching higher ground provided an opportunity to appreciate the winter landscape and celebrate their achievements together.
Before departure, students attended a short presentation where certificates were awarded in recognition of their effort, teamwork, and positive attitude throughout the visit. Staff commended the group for their conduct and willingness to challenge themselves.
The group returned to school on Sunday afternoon, where they were met by parents and carers. The residential visit proved to be a highly successful experience, enabling students to develop confidence, independence, and resilience while strengthening friendships and teamwork skills.
The school would like to thank the Year 9 students for their excellent behaviour and enthusiasm, as well as the staff and instructors whose support ensured a safe, rewarding, and memorable visit for all involved.
