Our House System
As part of our Personal Development programme at Alsop High School, our House System provides every student with the opportunity to take a full and active role in whole-school life. It is a fully inclusive system that encourages students to extend their learning across a wide range of curriculum and enrichment activities, while developing a strong sense of belonging, responsibility and community.
Each student is allocated to a House when they join the school and remains in that House throughout their time at Alsop, growing alongside their peers and building lasting relationships. This continuity helps to strengthen pride, loyalty and teamwork, creating a supportive and positive school culture.
Each House is led by a dedicated Head of House, who supports students’ wellbeing, celebrates achievements and leads House assemblies to motivate and inspire success. Heads of House play a key role in promoting positive behaviour, participation and personal development across the school.
The House System provides a platform for students to:
- Develop confidence, leadership and teamwork
- Take part in sporting, academic and creative competitions
- Engage in extra-curricular activities and represent the school
- Build positive relationships across different year groups
- Contribute to the wider school community
Healthy competition encourages students to challenge themselves, celebrate effort and achievement, and learn the value of collaboration and resilience.
Our Five Houses
Our Houses are named after inspirational individuals who have made a lasting impact on the world and who embody the values we promote at Alsop:
- Attenborough (Green) – Named after Sir David Attenborough, inspiring environmental responsibility, curiosity and care for the natural world.
- Franklin (Red) – Named after Rosalind Franklin, celebrating scientific excellence, determination and the power of women in STEM.
- Parks (Orange) – Named after Rosa Parks, representing courage, equality and standing up for what is right.
- Redgrave (White) – Named after Sir Steve Redgrave, inspiring resilience, ambition and perseverance in the face of challenge.
-
Turing (Blue) – Named after Alan Turing, championing innovation, problem-solving and academic excellence.
These role models help students connect their learning with real-world achievement and personal values.
The House competition reaches its peak in a vibrant end-of-year celebration assembly, where trophies and certificates are awarded and the overall House Champions are crowned. This highly anticipated event recognises sustained effort, teamwork and excellence across the school community and is a highlight of the academic year.
