Let Your Light Shine at Alsop High
This week Alsop High School has released a specially recorded Act of Collective Worship for Advent. This short film will be shared with partner primary schools, as part of the Alsop Hope 2021 programme.
The school has launched several initiatives to support students and their families as they prepare to celebrate Christmas during difficult times.
The assembly focuses on the “Liverpool Candle of HOPE” and Alsop students pause and reflect upon the word hope. The candle was given to a group of Italian teachers on their visit to Alsop. During 2017 the candle began a tour of Italian schools across Lombardy and Sardinia. Therefore, one version of the film will include Italian subtitles, to enable the assembly to be shown in Italian schools.
The film has been well received by colleagues in schools across Liverpool City Region and will be posted on the SPCK assemblies website.

I appreciate the schools' generosity of sharing their well-made films to all schools. At such a time as this, I know many schools will greatly appreciate this.”
Mr Peter Bull, Head of Religious Education writes: “We are so proud of the young people who participated in this film. They were keen to share this assembly to both their peers and young people in partner schools. Hopefully this assembly will be a catalyst to our Hope 2021 initiative, where students will consider stories of Hope and how people have fought for social justice.”
Alsop has worked in partnership with Rev Fiona Pennie, Interim Priest of St Mary’s to deliver an Advent initiative in the churchyard. Trees will be illuminated and artwork displayed to create a beacon of hope during these difficult times.
Mrs Paula Alker, Head of Art comments: “Our Year 8 students have produced some amazing artwork display for Walton Church. They worked really hard on perspective drawing. It is lovely to see their positive and enthusiastic attitude. They are so pleased that they can help our community celebrate Advent and Christmas.”
