Alsop are very proud of the Debate Mate cohort. Students represented Alsop in the first round of the Urban Debate League, competing against other schools from Liverpool and Manchester in a series of live debates over Zoom.

Alsop entered two teams. A number of Alsop senior students are now too old to compete in the programme. These young people continue to give up their time to support and mentor the younger students. Thanks go to - Rebecca P and Heather D (Y11), and Ethan B (Y13).

The motion for the first debate was: "This House Believes that politicians' private lives should remain private."Alsop A won their first debate. Unfortunately, Alsop B team, all Y7 students competing in a live debating competition for the first time, were defeated by their old rivals SFA!

Undeterred, Alsop B came back fighting in the second debate, which had the motion "This House Would get rid of all disciplinary measures in schools." The Year 7 novices, in only their second ever competitive debate, secured their first win of the tournament!

Meanwhile, the veterans Alsop A smashed the second debate and won again, meaning Alsop finished the night winning 3 out of 4 debates in total and walking away clear leads in this leg of the tournament!

Mr Andrew Hart, Assistant Headteacher writes:
