Congratulations to Abdulhamid O - Economics Essay Winner

We are beyond proud to share that Abdulhamid (Y12, Alsop Sixth Form) has been named the Economics Essay Winner in the international Oxford Scholastica Essay Competition 2025, beating out hundreds of entries worldwide.
His winning essay - “Climate Crisis: The Imperative for Economic Reformation” - delivered a bold, critical analysis of how traditional economic models have failed to reckon with the realities of climate change. Abdulhamid challenged mainstream economic thinking, exposed flaws in GDP-based policy, and championed alternatives like Raworth’s Doughnut Economics and natural capital accounting.
He argued that economics must break free from its “growth fetishism” and instead become a tool for planetary stewardship.
The judges called his essay exceptional. He’s now earned a place on a Research Internship worth £995 and recognition that places him among the brightest young economic thinkers of his generation.
This is what super-curricular brilliance looks like.
This is Alsop ambition in action.
