Snapchat
Snapchat has been updated so that it now uses the GPS on your phone to place you on a map where people can see exactly where you are.
You can adapt the settings to one of three options:
- no one can see where you are (ghost mode),
- only your friends see where you are, or
- everyone can see where you are.
This information can be seen in the pdf document below:

NSPCC’s Share Aware campaign - http://www.nspcc.org.uk/preventing-abuse/keepingchildren - is a great way to engage with parents about how sometimes children and young people share too much information online.
NSPCC’s Net Aware campaign http://www.net-aware.org.uk/# - a great tool for parents and school staff to understand better the range of social media apps that children and young people of all ages are currently using. Net Aware allows you type in the name of an app (as well as seeing an A-Z listing of all apps that they have reviewed) and see what the app does and the risks associated with that app. So if you want to know all about tumblr, Keek and ooVoo, for example, check out Net Aware.

ooVoo
ooVoo is a new App that parents need to be aware of. It is a new video chat app that lets you make video calls, voice calls and send texts to friends and family. Like many other sites and apps, ooVoo is used by both adults and children. This means that children can be directly contacted by an adult they don’t know. Furthermore, activity on services such as ooVoo is often adult in nature.
CEOP recommends that sites such as ooVoo should only be used by young people aged over 13, who have set their privacy settings to only allow contact with people they know and trust in the real world. For more information and guidance please follow the links below:
